Around Udaipur, the Precambrian rocks belonging to the Aravalli System are represented by feldspathic greywacke grading to phyllite and mica schist, calc-arenite, and ferruginous and carbonaceous quartzites. The rocks display a high degree of structural complexity resulting from the impress of three distinct periods of folding (F1, F2 and F3). The earliest folding movement (F1) produced tight to isoclinal folds with drawn-out hinges. The F1 folds are accompanied by a set of very well developed axial plane schistosity. These folds are presumed to have been initially recumbent with E-W to NW-SE axial trend. The second fold movement (F2) refolded the F1 folds to upright, open to occasionally isoclinal folds. The F2 folds have variable plunge and an overall northerly axial trend. The third fold movement has resulted in the formation of tight to isoclinal folds (F3) of small and intermediate scales on the limbs of larger F2 folds. The F3 folds are characterized by a set of axial plane crenulation cleavages. The superposition of the three fold systems has resulted in complex interference patterns on different scales.- Magnetic Spherules with Metallic Shine in the Recent Alluvium of Rajasthan

Magnetic spherules with metallic shine ranging from a fraction of millimeter to one millimeter in size have been discovered from red coloured ferruginous soils of Quaternary period at a large number of places in western Rajasthan. Occurrence of these magnetic spherules at far away places. In the red coloured ferruginous sandy loam that overlies the Mesoproterozoic metasediments of Delhi Supergroup, the Neoproterozoic rocks of Malani Igneous Suite and sediments of Marwar Supergroup, is quite significant, especially, in view of the inferred association of magnetic spherules with the intense volcanic activity, melting of inter planetary dust, ablation of meteorites and impact of extra terrestrial bodies like the one that possibly hit the earth and caused the mass extinction at K-T boundary.Keywords

During the search of some plant and animal fossils a variety of calcareous concretions were collected from the carbonaceous grey-black shales of Palana Formation of the Palaeocene age in a dug well section at Hadla Bhatiyan village Southwest of Bikaner in Rajasthan. The concretions range in size from a few millimetres to 30 centimetres in diameter. These structures exhibit a variety of shapes ranging from spherical, botryoidal, flattened and dumbbell shaped. The calcareous concretions observed here show an unusual internal structure. On the outer surface they show straight laminations but inside these laminations form slump structures. In many cases the central portion of the slump structures has been detached and rotated due to the gravity effect. Secondly, laminations on the outer surface exhibit continuity irrespective of the shape of the concretions.Keywords

A thick pile of un deformed and unmetamorphosed sediments exposed to the west of the Aravalli mountain range in Rajasthan. earlier known as the Trans-Aravalli Vindhyans and later renamed as the Marwar Supergroup, are considered to rest unconformably over the Malani Igneous Suite of rocks. Felsic volcanics have been observed around Chhoti Khatu. in Nagaur district for the first time interlayered with sediments of the Marwar Supergroup. They occur sandwiched between the underlying Sonia Formation and the overlying Girbhakar Formation of the Jodhpur Group (the Marwar Supergroup). This interesting relationship may help in deciding the age of the Marwar Supergroup.Keywords
